Helping a friend in need

The photography community in Ottawa is a small and close knit community. When I heard a young woman who I had previously worked with needed help I knew I wanted to help but wasn’t immediately sure how I could best help her. A campaign was launched on www.indiegogo.com and I decided to offer some of my photographic services as perks in the campaign. Not only would this help raise some money for the cause but by advertising the campaign on my photography web site and fan pages I was also helping spread the message about the campaign itself.

One of the services I offered as a perk was a pet portrait package. Meet Sherman.

This handsome Leonberger Sheperd mix was thrilled that the photoshoot was to take place in the snow! We went for a leisurely walk in his terrain. Enjoying the beautiful winter day and letting him be himself in the snow, and yes, usually with the tennis ball he loves so much.

Sherman may not have known me before this day but it didn’t take too long to warm up to me. Maybe it’s because we were simply going to his domain? He could not have looked much more comfortable or happy. I admit, while taking in the beautiful afternoon and location I sort of lost track of time but totally in a good way. It is often our dogs that teach us to slow down and enjoy every moment of our lives. This is something every dog owner already knows, but Sherman helped reinforce the lesson once more. I am very happy that by taking an afternoon walk with this beautiful dog I was also able to help a young woman who also needed some help.
